Can Wisdom Teeth Cause Fever?

Wisdom teeth themselves do not directly cause a fever. However, the process of wisdom teeth erupting or becoming impacted can lead to various symptoms, some of which may indirectly contribute to fever. When wisdom teeth become impacted (meaning they do not fully emerge from the gums) or if they become infected, it can result in a condition called pericoronitis, which is an inflammation of the gum tissue around the partially erupted tooth.

Pericoronitis can cause symptoms such as pain, swelling, redness, and sometimes fever. The fever is typically a sign that the body is responding to an infection or inflammation.

If you have a fever along with other symptoms like severe pain, swelling, or difficulty opening your mouth due to wisdom teeth issues, it’s essential to consult a dentist or oral surgeon for a proper evaluation. They can determine the cause of your symptoms and recommend the appropriate treatment, which may include antibiotics, pain management, or, in some cases, the removal of the impacted wisdom teeth.
