Does Banana Cause Acidity?
July 25, 2023 | by Yashaswi Pathakamuri | Posted in FAQ's
Bananas are generally considered to be non-acidic and are considered a low-acid food. They have a pH level of about 5.6, which makes them mildly acidic but still considered to be in the low-acid category.
For most people, bananas do not cause acidity or worsen acid reflux symptoms. In fact, bananas are often recommended as a part of a “heartburn-friendly” diet for individuals who suffer from acid reflux or gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This is because bananas are relatively easy to digest and are less likely to trigger acid reflux compared to more acidic fruits or foods.
Bananas contain natural compounds like potassium, which can help neutralize stomach acid and provide relief from heartburn or acid reflux symptoms in some individuals.
However, it’s important to remember that individual reactions to foods can vary, and some people may be more sensitive to certain foods, including bananas. If you find that bananas or any other food consistently cause acidity or discomfort, it’s a good idea to keep a food diary to track your symptoms and discuss your concerns with a healthcare professional or a registered dietitian. They can help identify any potential triggers and provide personalized dietary recommendations to manage acid reflux or other digestive issues.
