The primary mosquito species responsible for transmitting the dengue virus is Aedes aegypti. This mosquito species is prevalent in tropical and subtropical regions around the world, particularly in urban and semi-urban areas. Aedes aegypti mosquitoes are known for their preference for biting humans and are active during the daytime, with peak biting periods in the early morning and late afternoon. They can breed in small, stagnant water bodies commonly found in urban environments, such as water containers, flower pots, and discarded tires. Aedes albopictus, another mosquito species commonly known as the Asian tiger mosquito, can also transmit the dengue virus, although it is considered a secondary vector compared to Aedes aegypti.
