What is the mode of Nutrition in Fungi?

Fungi can have different modes of nutrition, but most fungi are heterotrophic, meaning they obtain their nutrients by breaking down and absorbing organic matter from their environment.

Fungi secrete enzymes that break down complex organic compounds such as proteins, carbohydrates, and lipids into smaller molecules that can be absorbed by the fungal cells.

Some fungi are also able to form mutualistic associations with other organisms, such as plants, where they exchange nutrients with their host in a symbiotic relationship.

However, there are some exceptions to this generalization. For example, some fungi, like certain species of yeast, can perform photosynthesis and obtain energy from sunlight, making them autotrophic.
