What are the National Programmes Related to Nutrition?

There are several national programs related to nutrition that have been implemented in different countries to improve the health and well-being of their citizens. Some of the key national programs related to nutrition include:
- Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) – This is a program launched by the Government of India in 1975 to provide nutrition and health education to pregnant and lactating mothers, children under the age of six, and adolescent girls. The program includes the provision of supplementary nutrition, immunization, health check-ups, and referrals for malnourished children.
- Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) – This is a federal assistance program in the United States that provides nutrition education, healthy food, and other support services to low-income pregnant women, new mothers, and young children who are at risk of malnutrition.
- National School Lunch Program (NSLP) – This is a federally assisted meal program in the United States that provides low-cost or free nutritious meals to children in public and nonprofit private schools. - Community-based Nutrition Programs – These are programs implemented in various countries that focus on improving the nutrition and health status of communities by providing nutrition education, health care services, and other support services. - Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement – This is a global movement launched in 2010 to bring together governments, civil society organizations, the United Nations, donors, and businesses to improve nutrition in countries with high rates of malnutrition. The movement aims to support countries in developing and implementing comprehensive nutrition plans that address the underlying causes of malnutrition and promote the availability and accessibility of nutritious foods.
