PCOD Symptoms and Diet

PCOD is known as Polycystic Ovarian disease. This is a hormonal disorder that effects one in ten women. In PCOD women has number of small cysts in the ovaries which also cause diabetes, infertility, acne and excessive hair growth. Most PCOD patients are overweight so they are advised to exercise regularly, which can further help to control the symptoms.
Symptoms Of PCOD
- Irregular periods
- Excessive body and facial hair
- Infertility
- Diabetes
- Acne
- Weight gain
- Heart problems
Some other symptoms of PCOD are migraines. The main problem of PCOD is irregular periods, if these occur in long period. There is a chance for uterus cancer. Depression is also a mild symptom.
Generally, there is no cure for PCOD, but through dietary modifications and exercise we may improve this problem.
Diet For PCOD
Women with PCOS have higher Insulin levels. If you’re insulin resistant, your body may try to pump out high levels of insulin to keep your blood sugar levels normal. Too high levels of insulin can cause your ovaries to produce more androgens, such as testosterone.
Due to Insulin resistance, BMI increases and cause obesity. Presence of Insulin resistance is difficult to reduce weight. This is the common problem most of the PCOS women experiences.
Foods That Helps In PCOD
Although there is no cure for PCOS, we can improve this condition by adding some foods to our daily diet. Lets know about foods to be taken and to be avoid in PCOS women.
Foods To Be Taken
We should add more fibre foods in our diet which helps in slow digestion and reduce impact of sugar on blood. Anti-inflammatory foods are also useful for PCOS women, as they may cause inflammation in some body parts.
1.High-Fibre Foods
- Sweet potato
- Almonds
- Beans
- Lentils
- Cruciferous Vegetables like Cauliflower, Broccoli ect.
- Green Vegetables
- Pumpkin
- Bell peppers
2.Lean Protein
- Chicken
- Fish
- Tofu
- Lean beef
- Low-fat cottage cheese
- Beans
- Peas
- Milk
- Yogurt
3.Anti-inflammatory Foods
- Tomato
- Spinach
- Olive oil
- Salmon
- Strawberries
- Cherries
- Oranges
- Almonds
Foods To Be Avoided
Refined carbohydrates cause inflammation and insulin resistance. So Highly processed foods should be avoided. We can use lentil flours instead of wheat flour. Sugar foods and fried foods should be avoided and foods that cause inflammation are to be avoided.
